Training and Development
The Training and Development/Human Resources Consulting division of Kerr Global focuses on two distinct areas of training and consulting. The Training and Development group focuses on areas of training related to the cable installation industry and includes: Electrical Awareness, Fall Protection/Ladder Safety, Temporary Workplace Signage and Traffic Control Organizational Effectiveness and includes areas such as: Time Management, MS Outlook, Strategic Planning and Team Building

Electrical Awareness
This one day course focuses on communication workers who carry out their duties within the low voltage communication zones.
The objectives of this training course are to:
» provide an understanding of the principles of electricity (voltage, amperage, resistance, and Ohms law);

» understand the injuries associated with electricity at various voltages;

» understand the risks and control measures intended to minimize or prevent electrical hazards associated with communication plant equipment, devices, and apparatus;

» be able to identify electrical hazards that a Communication worker may encounter;

» identify the zones on a pole and the safe limits of approach (qualified & unqualified);

» understand the principles on bonding and grounding, step and touch potential;

» understand and appreciate the health consequences of electrical contact; and

» be able to respond to an electrical incident safely.
Traffic Control
This one day course focuses on the essential skills required by a Traffic Control person in order to effectively and safely carry out their duties in the field. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive an accreditation card from Transportation and Public Works.
Temporary Workplace Signage
This two day course is designed for supervisors, workers and purchasers of TWS services. The course provides a detailed understanding of the principles and fundamentals of the Traffic Control Manual, and how they impact the workplace. After successfully completing the course, participants receive an accreditation card from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public Works.
Fall Protection/Ladder Safety
This one day course is designed to teach participants the basics of fall protection and ladder safety, including awareness of existing regulations, how to do a proper hazard assessment and the basics of fall arrest equipment. Participants are also able to bring their own harness for inspection and fitting.
Time Management
This half day workshop focuses on how to better manage your time, increase your effectiveness and balance your lifestyle. Participants in the course will learn how to use best practice time management principles to plan and organize their day, set priorities, effectively deal with interruptions, increase their control and decrease their stress. This workshop promises immediate results and customizes to whatever system (or lack therefore) the participant is currently using to try to organize themselves.
Microsoft Outlook
This half day workshop focuses on how to best customize and use Microsoft Outlook according to best practice time management and productivity principles. Learn how to get the most of this powerful piece of software and better organize yourself at the same time. Track tasks and delegations, set priorities, plan your day. Participants will return to work able to increase their productivity from day one by matching up the right skill set and process with this the Outlook software.
Team Building
Successful team building will have more significant impacts in your organization than perhaps any other form of training. By improving the way your employees interact you improve their ability to solve problems and achieve results. This means higher productivity and increased effectiveness overall. These customizable sessions focus on areas identified by you and your staff in order to bring about a more effective “team working” environment. Our team building programs can also include follow up sessions to help better implement behavioral changes back in the workplace.

Strategic Planning

This one day session (customizable to longer periods as required) will take your team through a process designed to answer these question;, identity your current strengths, opportunities and roadblocks; and to facilitate putting a plan in place to achieve the goals you identify as being core to your business. This workshop includes the preparation of a Strategic Plan document as well as a presentation to your senior leadership team.
